Chocolate Cake

There are so many kind of chocolate cakes. Anytime I made chocolate cake I almost always got a new idea of how to make it different.

When some one said, "up to you" actually it can be good or headache hehehe....The mood is one factor. When people said "up to you" and we're in a good mood then no problem. Now imagine that you're not in a good mood, not 100% fit then people said "up to you"...for me, I would prefer to go back to my hide under my blanket and continue sleeping rather than finishing the cake, hahahahah!



It's been 2 days I only had about 2 hour sleep and that's hard. Last night I was like loosing my mind when doing this chocolate cake for my dear best friend, Wenny, whom I would have lunch with this afternoon. I was kind of got bored with any kind of chocolate cake I've ever made so with a bit rushing of time I decided to combine the vanilla custard and ganache for the filling then covered the cake with full ganache and pouring some white shreded white chocolate to give it a little bit more color and taste.

Hope Wenny and family would like this cake, if not then just not making the same kind next time, hehehehehe....just make it simple, right.

Black Forest Cake

A repeated order from Sasa, a black forest cake for her dearest husband's birthday today. Last year Sasa ordered the same cake for her husband's birthday. As this was a repeated order, I gave them a bonus. With the same price as last year I gave them bigger size of cake.

Curry Cheese Cookie

The second cookies that I made yesterday for Ervin was Curry Cheese Cookie. I started to make this cookie about 2 years ago and people love it. Last year I decided not make this cookie because didn't have much time and energy to do it. This year, absolutely this cookie will be on my Lebaran cookie list again.



This cookie tastes unique. A combination between parmesan cheese, cheddar cheese, butter and curry powder.

Oatmeal Cookie

I love to bake but I am too lazy to bake cookies! I think cookies give me more effort to do rather than a cake hehehehe....but thank you to Nilam Sari that always inspires me to love baking cookies more :-)

Ervin and I have been good friends since high school and always difficult for me to say NO to her hehehe...Ervin is living in Jeddah, Arab Saudi, at the moment, and she often ordered some cakes to be sent to some good friends in Indonesia. Recently she asked me whether I would bake her some cookies and I said NO! But she is very persistent to keep asking me to do what she wants, and finally I could not say NO more to her.



The first cookie she wants is Oatmeal Cookie. I used the recipe I received from Nilam Sari and using her baking technic to bake this cookie. I almost give up on this cookie as the baking method seems have taken the whole time I have only for baking this oatmeal cookie. But you know what, it's worth!! the cookie turned out just perfect and soooo crunchy. Thank you Nilam Sari!!

Learning from the oatmeal cookie, I think I am ready for Lebaran cookie order now hehehehe....getting more excited about Lebaran cookie. This oatmeal cookie will be on the list.

Carrot cake with cheddar cheese topping

This is another new speciality from Joris' Kitchen that has received good respond and compliment from our customers.



Carrot cake is one of classic cake that every one would just love it. I have made carrot cake before but it seemed not the one I wanted it. Last Monday I received order from mbak Mita, recommended by mbak Susi Burhan, thanks mbak Susi! Mbak Mita ordered a carrot cake for her son's 1st birthday. I was thinking that I should make different kind of carrot cake, I want it to be moister and tasty, so I read some different kind of carrot cake recipes I have including the tips. Mostly the recipes are pretty much the same until I found out some additional tips. There are 2 tips that can help our carrot cake moister. Substitute the butter or margarine with salad oil and add some apple sauce or crushed pineapples to the batter. I did the two ways, and yes, it turned out marvelously! I just love the tenderness and moist texture, besides by adding some crushed pineapples and lemon juice, they absolutely enriched the taste!

I used cream cheese for filling and frosting then generously addres shredded cheddar cheese to the cake. Yummy...yum...yum...!

Sliced Cakes

It has been 2 days in a row that I had sleepless night. One thing I feel tired but the other hand so excited as my loyal customers are soo good. Once they knew I opened my kitchen again after the vacation, orders came even for the last minute confirmation ones.



This one was the last minute order from Jessy, my colleague. 150 sliced cakes. The order was confirmed yesterday at 11AM. Got home earlier and tried my best effort together with Nepi to finish the order.



Finally by 2:30AM this morning we finished the order. I made 75 slices of chocolate peach cakes and 150 slices of steamed strawberry cheesecakes.

Tonight...will be another sleepless night for doing mbak Mita's order. Good thing to know that tomorrow is election day in Indonesia which also a public holiday. After giving my vote in the morning, I would be able to sleep thru the day :-)

Cheddar Cheese Cake

This is a new speciality from Joris' Kitchen. I call it as cheese cheddar cake. How to describe this cake?



This is a type of cheese cake but I use steam method instead of au ban marie in the process. Very rich and moist....melted in your mouth. Combining the cake with cream cheese filling and topping then pouring it with shreded cheddar cheese. If you call yourself as a cheese lover then you should try this one!



This was my first order after returning from vacation. Ordered my a best friend of mine in Jeddah, Saudi for a dear friend in Indonesia. Thank you Ervin for your order!

Thomas & Friends Birthday Cake for Shalia's 2nd Birthday

Another Thomas & Friends birthday cake for Shalia's 2nd birthday. It's a girl that loves Thomas more than barbie or other girly things :-)



A 30 x 30cm square of lapis surabaya with butter cream icing and Thomas & Friends cake toys.

Thomas & Friends Birthday Cake for Yafi's 3rd Birthday

Order came from Bob, my colleague, for his son's 3rd birthday. It's a 20cm square double chocolate cake with butter cream icing.



I really enjoyed playing with butter cream again, it's kind of fun :-)

Hotwheels circuit race

The second theme that given by mbak Santi was the Hotwheels circuit race that made from a number 2 cake shape.



As I don't have the number 2 pan, I made it from a 24 x 24 square triple chocolate cake that cut down to be shaped as a number 2.

Again, I received a very nice compliment from mbak Santi that made me speechless. Thank you very much mbak!

3D Doraemon Cake

It's a repeated order from mbak Santi before I left for vacation. Mbak Santi gave me a challege to make 3D Doraemon cake. It was really a challege! but I finally managed to get it done even though not the perfect one but I am pretty happy with the result.



The basic cake was strawberry cake as requested. There was an accident during the delivery that made me so dissapointed as I have put so much effort on this cake but the cakes arrived with some cracks on it.

I am so blessed to have a customer like mbak Santi who was really calm on that situation. She gave me compliments rather than complains. Thank you very much mbak Santi, God bless your sweet heart.

Mini fruit pie for Mbak Eli

Second order came from mbak Eli in Citragrand. This time mbak Eli would like to try Joris' Kitchen mini fruit pies.

So, this morning I delivered 30 mini fruit pies with vanilla vla to mbak Eli's home in Citra Grand.

Mini cuppies for Irene - 2nd order

Ibu Irene Nainggolan from Ichtus Christian School placed a second order of mini cuppies for celebrating her 10th anniversary at church last Saturday. I am glad knowing that Ibu Irene was happy with the first mini cuppies.



For the second order, Ibu Irene asked me to make 180 mini cuppies, almost 4 times than the first order. The decoration was still required the same as the first one, lollypop swirl with fondant flowers.

Thank you Brownies for teachers

I made these thank you brownies for Ruth and Jonathan teachers at school. They are actually not the main teachers for Ruth and Jonathan but in daily basis they are always stand by to help the main the teachers in the classroom.

Jonathan's 4th birthday goodie bag

I was so pleased with myself as I was able to made almost everything for Jonathan's goodie bag by myself. With some helps from mbak Sri we happened to prepare the items:



1. Yellow rice and its condiments (yummy and tasty)
2. Chocolate chips & nuts cookies (its so crunchy and yummy! many testimonial about it!)
3. Cupcakes (the mocca flavour is yummy)
4. Chocolate pudding with fruit cocktails (yummy)
5. UHT chocolate milk - this one I bought from supermarket :-)

Jonathan's 4th birthday cupcakes

These cupcakes I made as one of Jonathan's goodie bag items. The theme was car. I asked Jonathan whether he would allow me to do it 2D not 3D and he said no problem because he knows Mommy would not have enough sleep preparing every thing for his birthday party. Good boy!

Those were mocca cupcakes and thank you to my dear friend who gave me this cute cookie cutter as birthday gift. I made fondat car cut off for the cupcakes. Kind of fun doing it. But there was one thing to sorry, I was sort of solo muffine liner when started to bake the cupcakes and it made me realeasing these cute soli liners I got from Ibu Yuli when she visited Kuala Lumpur. I love the solo liners from KL so much, they are so colorful and cute! Well, nothing can buy my boy's joy though so had to release them from my kitchen, hiks.

Fondant flower cake for teachers

While busy preparing everything for celebrating Jonathan's 4th birthday at school, one order came from Melisa. I couldn't say NO to Melisa because she has been so loyal to Joris' Kitchen. Thanks Mel!



Melisa ordered an american chocolate devil cake decorated with fondant for Max' teachers. Melisa said, "decoration is all up to you, just make it simple one for my son's teachers." I couldn't think of anything than flowers hahahaha....so, this one was the fastest design I could think of.

Jonathan's 4th birthday cake (Cake-2)

The second birthday cake I made was for the small birthday party at school. It was also chocolate and nuts cake with 24 square size.



The theme was still Lighting Mc Queen and friends but this time as requested I added 2 more characters which were Max the truck and Matter. Jo still complained because there was no Doug hihihihihi....next time my dear... :-)

Jonathan was even happier with this cake because there was Matter, Mc Queen good buddy. Proudly he told everyone that Mommy made this cake for him! Love you son!!

Jonathan's 4th birthday cake (Cake-1)

I made two birthday cakes for Jonathan's 4th birthday as his birthday was on Saturday, June 13th and birthday party at school couldn't be held until the following next Tuesday.

Saturday morning before his daddy went off to the university, we had small and simple celebration for him at home. Singing happy birthday for him, blowing candles, praying and eating the birthday cake.



As it was only for our family, I made it in small size, 18cm. It's chocolate and nuts cake fully decorated by fondant. As Jonathan loves Lighting Mc Queen and friends, I made small fondant figurines for Mc Queen and Sally. It's not the best one as I was sleepless but he was thrilled and really melted my heart.
