Steamed Brownies (Brownis Kukus)

Steamed Brownie was a starter in my baking world. I remember 2 years ago when my soul was soo thirsty of being back to baking but the condition was I don't have any oven yet. Then I was introduced by a best friend about steamed brownie. Good thing is as an Indonesian every one has traditional steamer aka "Dandang." Well, just give it a try then. I tried making steamed brownie many times until finally I got the right taste and texture. I also modified the original recipe to something that comes out a bit different and it was just wonderful because right now my Pandan Cheese steamed brownie become a favorite one.
I also got a great support to continue being serious in learning more about steamed cake by my dearest friend that I consider as my dearly sister, Uwi Yuli, that gave me a book of steamed brownies recipe with its modification as my birthday gift.
Last week, I made some steamed brownie for a dear friend, Peppy. She wanted to taste my steamed brownies before deciding to order more. I am glad that my steamed brownies satisfied her, and she came out with more orders.

Here are her orders :

2 packs chocolate steamed brownies

2 pack Pandan Cheese steamed brownies

18 cups Pandan Cheese steamed brownis

Even though now I already have my oven and doing more bakings, I would never forget do keep receiving steamed brownies orders because Joris' Kitchen is started by Steamed Brownie :-)

Ruth's 4th Birthday

23 October was Ruth's 4th Birthday. Since 2 months ago Ruth already asked me that she wanted to celebrate her birthday at school. And she wanted everything was about strawberry. She loves strawberry shortcake recently. A month ago when I went to the store that sells baking stuff Ruth looked for everything that match with strawberry shortcakes theme and we have found some cute stuff to put on. Such as the paper cup, cake toys and strawberry chocolate.

For her 4th Birthday cake, I made chocolate devil cake for the basic cake with strawberry jam and vanilla butter cream filling. Then using butter cream to decorate the cake.

Cup Cakes for Rosi

This order comes from Rosi, my colleague who was impressed with cup cakes I made for Nadia. Firstly, Rosi asked me to decorate the cup cakes with animal themes as she wanted to share the cup cakes with her niece but then she changed her mind, she said no special theme for the cup cakes decoration, up to me.

When some one said "up to you" it can be good but it also can be worst. The worst thing was I just had no idea at all for the decoration. I have done blog walking these very recent days but stil the result was zero last night. For an hour I was just sit down on the floor did nothing, playing with the butter cream, tasted it, playing again until a mosquito bit me then I realized it's already 11 pm!!

I really wanted to make a nice swirl using Wilton 1M so the swirl will come out like a nice rose but I don't have Wilton 1M. When I looked at my stuff I found one tip that looks like something that can help me to do such thing like Wilton 1M. Well, I bought the tip in traditional market and it only cost Rp 1,000 so it doesn't work as good as the Wilton one, at least I will have a good excuse :-)

It's fun using this fake tip hehehehehe...and in 45 minutes finally I have done all decoratings. I made a set of purple roses from swirl and another set of fruity decoration for Rosi, what a fun night .

Cup cakes for Khaira 3rd Birthday

Besides ordering the birthday cake, Khaira Moms also ordered some cup cakes to go along with the birthday cake. High light for the cup cakes orders are:

1. Should not contained any butter cream - prefer decorated using royal icing (RI)
2. Written : Khaira Birthday in each cup cake

Well, really a challege for me as I am not too familiar with royal icing. But after a long discussion with Efi, my friend, finally I have enough guts to be confident that everything should be okay.

Afer done doing the cup cakes I was happy that these cup cakes turned out pretty nice even though the decorating was just simple one. Sindhi, Khaira's Mom was also happy with the cup cakes. "Very nice, Dew!" said Sindhi. Thank you Sindhi :-)

Barney Cake for Khaira 3rd Birthday

Khaira, my best friend's daughter celebrated her 3rd birthday on last Saturday, 9 September 2007. As she is a big fan of Barney and Baby Bob, her mom asked me to make a birthday cake for Khaira with Barney theme. "It should be colorful and besides Barney, Khaira loves baloons and balls."

I tried to combine all requests even though after done the decorating I am not satisfied with the result yet. I think it's not colorful enough besides that I was a bit lost in ideas. Well...oh well..I wasn't feeling well either. Well...oh well again...I am happy that Khaira, her sibbling and parents were happy with the birthday cake even though I might have to take a note to improve my decorating skill.

The birthday cake

Barney, Baby Bob, baloons, balls, ducks and rabbits in little park

Side decoration

Happy birthday sweet Khaira, may God continues to bless and shower you with His love forever!

Cup cakes for welcoming a baby boy!

Instead of making a welcome cake for a baby boy, I decided to make cup cakes for this little cute baby boy. I just love the idea and I thought it's a cute thing to do.

When I wanted to make a set of cake to give to them, I was a bit lost..I didn't know what to put on the cake. But finally I made up my mind and the 6 cup cakes to give to the Subra's were pretty nice.

Kezia Birthday Cake & Cup Cakes

Kezia, is the name of a beatiful little girl from our next door. Her father is a friend of mine since we were both in Junior High School. On 28th July Kezia celebrated her 2nd birthday and as she is a big fan of Dora, her mother asked me to make a Dora theme for her birthday cake.

It was a pleasure for me to do the birthday cake and cup cakes for Kezia Birthday party. Too bad we couldn't join the nice party as we already had another appointment on the same day. In the evening I received sms from Ari, Kezia's father. The whole family including his parent's in law were really happy with the birthday cake and cute cup cakes. Kezia was so thrilled with the birthday cake, many thanks!.

It felt so good and thankful when my customer satisfied with what I have done. Even though I didn't have sleep at all when I did this order, but the thank you note worth more than anything.

Chocolate Cup Cakes

I made this cup cakes as a trial for my new muffin baking sheets that I bought from Edi Store in Mayestik Market. I love the new muffin sheets, my cup cakes turned out great!

For the recipe I just modified the butter cake recipe, substituted some flour with cocoa and it turned out just perfect.

For the topping, I used melted dark cooking chocolate with some butter then put a strawberry chocolate in the top of it to make it nicer.

Wanna try this?...here is the recipe...

Chocolate Cup Cakes
original recipe from Butter Cake II by Fatmah Bahalwan

Ingredients :
120 gr butter
200 gr sugar
140 gr flour
50 gr cocoa
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla powder
2 eggs
150 ml milk

Directions :
1. Preheat oven to 180 C, line paper cup on 12 muffin baking sheet.
2. Sift together flour, cocoa and baking powder, set aside.
2. Cream butter, sugar and vanilla powder until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
3. Add sifted ingredients alternately with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Beat well after each addition.
4. Pour batter into muffin sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes.
5. Cool in pan for about 10 minutes - remove to racks.

Topping :

Melted 100gr of dark cooking chocolate in a sauce pan, add 2 tb butter, stir until well combined and used it quickly. To put the topping in the top of cake, I just dip the cup cake to the melted chocolate then set it in the rack for a while before putting the strawberry chocolate in the top ot it. You can also use any kind of sprinkles or BC to decorate the cup cakes.
