Mandarin Orange Chocolate Cake

A Mandarin orange chocolate cake to close the order of Midodareni night.

2 layers of chocolate sponge cake with filling of chocolate ganache and mandarin orange. I used light mandarin orange syrup to moist the cake, then the cake was fully covered with chocolate ganache and topped with mandarin oranges and red cherries.

Dearest Fajar, thank you soo much for your order and your trust you given to me to take part on this very important moment of your brother and inlaw to be. My best regards for the happy couple!

O & A Cupcakes

O & A are the initial of the bride and the groom. Fajar wanted me to write down those initial on the cupcakes and put a red chocolate heart shaped in between.

Basic color requested was pink and to make it more merrier I put love trimits and fondant flower.

Fruit Taart Midodareni Night

The second order was Fruit Taart. Just like other fruit taart, it made of 2 layers of sponge cake with blueberry filling and strawberry flavour butter cream and I combined peach heavy syrup and mandarin orange light syrup to moist the cake.

The fruits to assemble the cakes were grapes, strawberries, kiwis and peaches.

Mini Savory Pies

As part of the midodareni night order, Fajar asked for a box of mini savory pies. The pie fillings are shraded chicken, beef sausage, carrots and mushroms with creamy white sauce and shredded cheddar cheese topping.

Midodareni Night order from Fajar

It's a repeated order from Fajar where a few months ago she ordered a box of cupcakes for her brother engagement. Tomorrow her brother is getting married and in our culture there is a ceremony a night before the wedding called Midodareni Night.

This is the ceremony where the couple in their single status get together with their relatives and friends for the last time before they get married on the next day.

Fajar ordered 4 kinds of cakes and I will post them in my blog one by one.

Mini Barbie Cake

It's my first time to make mini barbie cake. Order came from Jurike Armanto (Ike) who owns Mom's Kitchen. Ike order this mini barbie cake to be put on the top of her niece birthday cupcakes tier.

Maybe because I am not used to do the mini barbie doll yet then it seemed harder.

Mbak Ike, this is the best I could do...apologize if it didn't turn out as you expected. I will do better in the future.

"Ndodok Lawang" Cup Cakes

"Ndodok Lawang" is javanese idiom means that it's a ceremony for a family to introduce themselves to their future inlaw before the proposal, engagement or even marriage ceremony of the couple.

These cupcakes I made for Ika's family, a friend that I met thru Multiply. 2 dozens of cup cakes with two flavors : chocolate and vanilla with chocolate chips filling. Color theme is blue and pink, decorated using butter cream, some love shaped sprinkles, fondant flowers and pink chocolate heart shaped.

Kezia's 3rd birthday cupcakes

This is a repeated order from Einy, Kezia's mom. Last year when they celebrated Kezia's 2nd birthday, Einy also ordered some cupcakes and birthday cake. This time she even ordered some more. And her orders were divided into 3 things.

First was total of 85 cuppies to be shared to Kezia's teachers and friends in the neighborhood. Einy wanted 3 different colors : blue, yellow and pink with flowers and butterflies decor from fondant. But I didn't understant that I ended up making diffferent kind of decoration. I have apologized to Einy and Ari also gave them some discount for the mistake I have done.

special packed for Kezia's teachers

special packed 3-3 for friends in the neighborhood

I hope this kind of thing won't happend again in the future. The cupcakes were vanilla with chocolate chips filling and lemon cupcakes.

Thank you Einy for given me the second change :-)

So happy knowing that all cupcakes and fancy cookies I made sold out very fast.

Here are cupcakes I made. They were moist chocolate cupcakes decorated using simple swirl in pink, blue and yellow color with chocolate topper then packed individually.

Cream Cheese Brownie

I have favorite cooking site that is http://www.joyofbaking.com/ This site has always been very inspirational for me. Thank you very much Stephanie Jaworski!

Last night I tried her cream cheese brownie. Yum.....it turned out perfect! just delicious...when I tried this brownie, I remember my friend, Cherryl who always said : "Ohh my dear heaven" when trying something really good. So last night I said..."Ohh my dear heaven!"

I just copy paste the recipe directly from Stephanie' site as I didn't make much adjustment on it. I hope you don't mind Stephanie :-)

Sorry the pic is not as good as what Stephanie did for her site hehehehe...

Ingredients :

Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup (113 grams) unsalted butter, cut into pieces (I used Orchid butter)
4 ounces (114 grams) unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped (I used Theis)
1 1/4 cups (250 grams) granulated white sugar (I used only 200gr)
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2 large eggs (I used 3 medium eggs)
1/2 cup (70 grams) all purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt

Cream Cheese Layer:

8 ounces (227 grams) cream cheese, at room temperature (I used Anchor)
1/3 cup (65 grams) granulated white sugar (I used only 50gr)
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 large egg (I used 2 small eggs)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (160 degrees C) and place the rack in the center of the oven. Have ready a 9 x 9 inch (23 x 23 cm) square baking pan that has been lined with aluminum foil across the bottom and up two opposite sides of the pan. Set aside.

In a stainless steel (heatproof) bowl placed over a saucepan of simmering water, melt the butter and chocolate. Remove from heat and stir in the sugar and vanilla extract. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well (with a wooden spoon) after each addition. Stir in the flour and salt and beat, with a wooden spoon, until the batter is smooth and glossy and comes away from the sides of the pan (about one minute). Remove 1/2 cup of the brownie batter and set aside. Place the remainder of the brownie batter evenly into the prepared pan.

Then in the bowl of your food processor (or with a hand mixer), process the cream cheese until smooth. Add the sugar, vanilla, and egg and process until creamy and smooth. Spread the cream cheese filling over the brownie layer. Spoon small dollops of the reserved brownie batter evenly on top of the cream cheese filling. Then with a table knife or wooden skewer, swirl the two batters without mixing them.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes or until the brownies start to pull away from the sides of the pan and the edges of the brownies are just beginning to brown. Remove from oven and place on a wire rack to cool. Refrigerate the brownies until they are firm enough to cut into squares (at least two hours). Once chilled, remove the brownies from the pan by lifting with the ends of the foil and transfer to a cutting board. With a sharp knife, cut into 16 squares. It is a good idea to have a damp cloth nearby to wipe your knife between cuts. These brownies can be stored in the refrigerator for several days.

Makes about 16 - 2 inch squares.

Fancy Cookies

This is my first time to try making fancy cookies. With good support from my cyber friend, Cindy that I met thru NCC mailing list finally I could get myself to try on this.

My kids, Ruth and Jonathan helped me making these cookies. They even loved the whole process making the dough thru cutting the dough into shapes. On thing that they missed was decorating the cookies as they both were tired and decided to go for napping so I decorated these cookies by myself.

I am pretty happy with the result and even think to make some more for kids church bazaar next Sunday.

Fruit Taart for Putu

Last week a friend from previous company I worked for text me and ordered this fruit taart for his colleague. He was confused between fruit taart and fruit pie and he asked me to choose for him. For me, I love both, fruit taart and fruit pie so kindly hard to choose...hahaha...wish that he would order them both hahaha...finally he decided to order this fruit taart.

It's always fun when assembling the fruits to the cake or pie...this time I played with kiwi, strawberry and oranges only but they still look pretty though, don't they? A little bit different with the previous fruit taart I made before, this one I made it of 2 layers of vanilla sponge cake with filling vanilla butter cream and blueberry. And for the simple sirup, I used the mandarin syrup from the can. Turned out very tutty fruitty and yummy :-)

Surprise Black Forest for a Husband's Birthday

There was Sasa, my neighbor who wanted to make a birthday surprise for her beloved husband, Pak Imam. Sasa ordered a black forest and I was so happy to be able to help her to prepare this nice surprise.

I made four layers black forest cake and ended up very tall. But this even gave me a new idea for the decorating. As this cake is from a lovely wife to her beloved husband then I needed to support this idea. I put some pink heart candies around the cake in top of the chocolate borders and turned out cute.

Naruto edible cake for Aras

Aras is daughter for Ienk, my cyber friend. Aras is crazy about Naruto these days....during their holiday in Jakarta, Ienk who lives in Cirebon, sms me asking whether I would be available to make Aras a Naruto cake using edible..it's just for fun said Ienk.

Aras really likes nuts, the family likes chocolate and Aras' causin likes strawberry....Ienk wanted me to combine all together in one cake! hahahahahaha...finally we came out with this idea : 3 layers chocolate sponge cake with 2 kind of fillings : between layer 1 and 2, the filling is strawberry jam and between layer 2 and 3 the filling is peanut butter. I used chocolate ganache to cover all over the cake, decorated with Naruto & friends edible image and using peanut butter to draw the edible border, then cover all ganache surface with almond slices.

When this morning I delivered the cake to Taman Rasuna Apartment, where Ienk and family are staying during their holiday, I was so happy to see Aras' eyes were blinkin looking at her cake. And she even could wait to taste the cake. Aras really loves the almond and chocolate ganache and couldn't stand to pinch her finger to the cake all the time hahahahahaha....

Having more chocolate cupcakes dough, I decided to bake them for Ienk as a gift. Simple decoration using swirl and fondant tiny flowers.

Just received an sms from Ienk saying : (in bahasa)

"Dew, cakenya dah rusak hehehehe..blm difoto dah dicolak2 hihihi..lgs dipotong ama anak2 nih...coklatnya yummy bgt nih...aku sih ngembat ganache nya aja hehe"

It's great to hear that Ienk...thank you very much for yout trust and order, see you again on Tuesday at lunch time.....love you all always!
