Purple & Yellow for Meene

Melisa is a good friend of mine I knew from cyber world. I met Melisa thru Balita Anda Mailing List, then we happened to have lunch together and since then become best friends.

In chinese tradition they have one month baby celebration and Melisa asked me to make some cup cakes and mini cake for her daughter's one month baby celebration. The color theme are purple and yellow but I added some whites and greens to make them nicer and more colorful.

Thanks Mel for the order, it was lots of fun doing them. My love to Max and Meene!

From the queen to Arya

The Queen of cup cakes with busy with big order from XL, that's why the queen asked me to bake her nephew's birthday cup cakes.

Well, I was a bit nervous doing this order as this is the order from the queen of cup cakes, what if it doesn't turn out nice and delicious as the queen usually does? Well,...just do my best then.

Glad that Arya and family loved the cup cakes....the queen also gave me an appreciation for them....I feel soo great!

Birthday cake for Michael

Second order was a birthday cake for Michale, Lynda's nephew. I know Lynda Maitimu William from Multiply. Lynda emailed from Holland saying that she was coming back to visit her family in Jakarta and would like to order birthday cake for her nephew, Michael.

Chocolate devil cake covered with plastic icing/fondant and Michael's edible image. I am glad knowing Lynda and her family satisfied with cake....and planning to order some more :-)

Thank you Lynda and have a safe trip back to Holland :-)

P.S. Apologize for the pic as only taken by my cell phone camera.

Birthday cup cakes for Zia

One day before my birthday there were 2 orders that made me only sleep for an hour.

First order from Zia for her birthday. Chocolate cupcakes with edible image. I was too tired for taking the picture so I took the picture in the office using my cell phone camera - not good enough.

Lemon Cup Cakes

Sunday afternoon together with other christian colleagues we visited an orphanage in Jati Makmur area, not too far from where I live. I baked them 110 lemon cup cakes. The recipe I used was egg whites cup cakes from Martha Steward that I have posted before. This time, the cup cakes turned out even much better then the first trial. It is more moist and the lemon flavour was really rich. Jonathan and I really love the lemon butter cream I made, I think I am gonna make some more for us this week, for weekend snack :-)

Cup Cake - cow's theme

There was Yukki, called me last week asking me whether I would be able to make her a 3D cow cake. Well...as I have never been done that, I told her the truth...and after I think of it I told her that I still don't have enough guts to make a 3D cow cake. What I could do maybe just making a birthday cake with little cows from fondant for the decoration or something else like cow color theme, etc. No more phone calls from Yukki until last Friday afternoon Yukki called me to confirm her order that was a dozen of cup cakes with little cow made from fondant and picture edible.

I told Yukki to combine the edible picture and little fondat cow would be a bit too much, the little cow would cover the picture edible...and yes, when I tried to make little cows from fondant and put them on the top of cup cakep which already covered with the edible image, seems like those cows sitting on some boday's face and I thought it's not proper...so I decided to take out the fondant cows. Besides the edible itself already has cow's picture next to the person picture.

I hope Yukki won't mind with that...I received a thank you sms from Yukki yesterday evening for the cup cakes and that relieves me :-)

Mc Queen for Mumtaz

When Luki, Mumtaz's mom called me to order this cake the time frame is a bit too tight but I kept said yes to her as I thought it could be a good challenge.

I don't know what was going on with me....I thought I did not do my best when making Mc Queen's birthday cake for Mumtaz. Am I getting a baking blue? I don't know...maybe I wasn't too well....My alergic coughing has been pretty annoying at night. Oh no.....that's too many excuse which actually still not acceptable!
The Mc queen was made of lapis surbaya (surabaya layer cake). As Luki didn't want any base cake, I put some more cup cakes for Mumtaz alphabetical name and one more cup cake for putting the candle. The cake plate was too tight to put all things together and that was just very annoying me, but I was ran out of time so I just let them be.

So when Luki came to pick up the cake on Saturday morning, I gave her some discount for her son's birthday cake. I am sorry Luki....I think I should have done better than this....thank you for your understanding and hope Mumtaz' birthday went well...he is such a cute littel boy!

Lapis Surabaya again (Surabaya Layer Cake)

Lapis Surabaya in small version, sold by Rp 75,000 each pack.

Simple Chocolate Cake

This order came from my next door neighbor whose son is best friend of Ruth and Jonathan. When Fikar' auntie said that they just wanted to order a very simple chocolate cake for Fikar, I suddenly just couldn't think of anything. Well...how simple? when it comes for Fikar, I can't say it's just a chocolate butter cake or sponge cake, I must do something with it to make it nicer for him even though the budget is very low.

So, this idea just crossed to my mind, a chocolate sponge cake with butter cream filling, do not forget to always add simple syrup to make it moist. Covered the cake with butter cream, topped with shreded chocolate and red cherries. I hope Fikar loves it.

Chocolate-Filled Cupcakes

I am glad when I found this recipe from here, thanks a lot Martha! As I have so many egg whites in refrige, I found this recipe is very useful.

Wednesday night after work, I baked 2 recipes and I brought them to our church picnic on the next day at Mekarsari. People loved the cup cakes they were surprised knowing that the cupcakes only made of egg whites and no egg yolk at all.

So for you who have many egg whites left over, this recipe can be another good alternative.

Ingredients :
Makes 1 dozen

3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar (I only used 1 cup)
6 large egg whites (equal to
3/4 cup whole milk
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
2 vanilla beans, halved lengthwise, seeds scraped and reserved, beans discarded (I didn't use it as I don't have it at home)
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon coarse salt
4 ounces bittersweet chocolate, cut into 12 2-inch chunks
1 tablespoon confectioners' sugar, for dusting

Directions :

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a standard 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners; set aside. Put butter and granulated sugar into the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment; mix on medium speed until pale and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add egg whites, milk, vanilla extract, and vanilla seeds; mix until combined, scraping down sides of bowl as needed. Add flour, baking powder, and salt; mix until just combined.

Divide batter among muffin cups, filling each cup about 3/4 full. Insert a piece of chocolate into center of each, pressing about halfway into batter to cover. Bake until pale golden brown, about 24 minutes. Transfer tin to a wire rack; let cool slightly. Dust with confectioners' sugar before serving. Cupcakes can be stored in airtight containers at room temperature up to 3 days.
